COVID-19 update
Many of you have questions about how COVID-19 may affect our season. The honest answer is that we don’t know yet. The Greater Knoxville Area Interclub Swimming Association (GKAISA) is the governing body of our league. They plan to “follow the guidance of our medical experts, our federal, state, and local governments, and the best interest of our swimmers, coaches, and volunteers.” Given that the summer season is still a couple of months out, they will be monitoring the situation and will update us if changes need to happen.
What does that mean for our team? As a member of GKAISA, we will follow their decisions. We hope the season will not be impacted but are prepared if it is. We are currently proceeding with plans for a full summer of swimming until we know those plans must change.
We encourage you to go ahead and register for the season. Registration opens to new families on April 1st.. If you choose to pay by check, please wait to write it until we are sure of our plans. You can bring payment with you to the pool when the time comes. If you have already mailed your check, we will hold it for now and will notify you before depositing. If you pay by credit card, the payment will process immediately, but we can easily initiate a refund to your card if need be. Either way, we will return all payments if we are not able to swim this summer.
If the GKAISA season is cancelled but we are clear of COVID-19 restrictions at some point in the summer, we want to create a partial summer swim. That might mean holding practices and Blue & White meets, or maybe we will be able to arrange fun meets with neighboring teams. We will all be craving normalcy, socialization, and physical activity at the end of this, and we will do our best to provide. If that occurs, we will revamp fees accordingly and give everyone the opportunity to either participate or cancel their registration.
