Swim Meet Officials Training
Good evening Concord Hills Piranhas,
Happy Friday and I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend! Our summer swim season is almost here and we are looking forward to getting back in the water and having dual meets again this summer.
As we prepare for those dual meets, we are in need of parents willing to serve as Certified Officials for those meets. Certification is required by GKAISA for all individuals serving as Referee, Starter, or Stroke & Turn Judge. Certification for a Stroke & Turn Judge is good for 2 years, so complete it this year and be certified for 2021 AND 2022! These are essential roles that we have to fill, but they also come with several benefits :) such as:
- Front row pool side view of all races :)
- Parking in the pool parking lot for all home swim meets that you are working
- A discount on your swimmers’ 2022 registration fee when joining the team next year
- Having a better understanding of the rules of swimming that can aid your swimmer
- The list could go on and on…….!
In order to volunteer and serve as a Certified Official during a swim meet, it requires a little bit of training by attending one GKAISA clinic. This clinic will train you on what to look for and how to carry out these important job functions. The clinic is not long and usually last about 1.5 hours.
Below is the list of upcoming clinics that have been scheduled (only one clinic needs to be attended):
- Tuesday, May 18th, 6pm at Village Green clubhouse
- Saturday, May 22nd, 8am at Sevierville Community Center
- Monday, May 24th, 6pm at Oak Ridge Civic Center
- Tuesday, May 25th, 6pm at Student Activities Center Carson-Newman University
- Wednesday, June 2nd, 6:30pm at Gettysvue Golf and Polo Club
- Thursday, June 3rd, 7pm at John Sevier Pool
- Friday, June 4th, 7pm at Rockwood Community Center
- Tuesday, June 8th, 6pm Knoxville Racquet Club (Indoor Tennis Building)
Thank you in advance for your consideration and I hope you will consider attending a clinic above to become a certified official! Having a large roster of potential officials for meets will greatly help our swim team this summer. If you do sign up, please let the team know so that we can track our potential list.
Hope all the Piranha moms have a great Mother’s Day this weekend!
Thanks,
Ben Duby
