Peninsula Club Onsite Scout Report! Read for Thursday!!!
June 26th
- Recommendations…PLEASE read this section prior to the meet
- Carpool if at all possible. Parking is extremely limited for this dual meet.
- Budget 30 minutes drive time. This club is in an older section of Knoxville toward UT. Budget at least 30 minutes drive time from Farragut area to arrive safely, find parking, and get on deck on time.
- One Lane Entry. The drive into Peninsula Club is ONE lane into the lot and yields for out going traffic. Watch for walkers and cars coming toward you.
- No tents or big umbrellas. There is no room for them on the visitor deck.
- Bring folding chairs or blankets. Pack lightly and note there is really no room for drop offs in the one way entrance they have.
- Attend volunteer meeting (both shifts) at 5:15 near the scoring tent. Every club runs meets slightly differently and as visitors we have to adjust to host’s directions and pool situation. See our CHP meet director Melissa Doerr if you are late or can’t find the meeting. It’s very important we have all our volunteers ready at away meets.
- More details for those that want it…
- Schedule
- Swimmers and Volunteers Sign In 4:15
- Swimmers on Deck: 4:30
- Worker Meeting 5:15
- Warm Ups: 4:55- 5:25
- Meet Starts at 5:30
- Location
- Pool address is 2222 Houser Rd, Knoxville, TN 37919.
- This pool is located off Lyons Bend Road a good 30 minutes from Farragut in an older neighborhood toward UT.
- Both Lyons View and Houser are older roads without much margin on the sides in places. Lighting is not consistent and roads are hilly and curvy. Be prepared to drive slower than you might expect especially after dark. Please share with your senior / teen and older drivers.
- Parking
- They have 2 parking lots next to the pool, but they are not very big and fill fast.
- Oversized trucks or SUVs may have difficulty maneuvering in the lot closest to the pool as traffic lane is narrow one lane.
- Parking is also available on Neilwoods Road across the street from the entrance to the club, but only on one side of the road.
- Carpooling is thus strongly recommended.
- Visitor Seating
- The visitor team sits on the entrance side of the pool under the pergola.
- It offers a little bit of shade, but there is no way to set up a tent.
- Spectators should bring their own chairs. They have some seating, but the chairs fill up quickly.
- Clerk of Course and Pool
- We will have the Clerk of Course on the side of the pool near the starting blocks for the 10 and under swimmers. 10 and under swimmers will first report to this area when called and will be lined up by the clerk of course workers and escorted to the starting blocks by heat. The 11 and up swimmers will report directly to the lane that they will be swimming and check in with the timer/scribe for that lane.
- This is a 25 yard pool with 6 lanes.
- CHP team will swim in even numbered lanes.
- Concessions
- They will have concessions available with healthy options for dinner from Chick-fil-a and pizza by the slice.
